VALLEY LODGE

Southern California's Oldest Men's Sober Living Home!

A NON PROFIT CORPORATION

The Valley Lodge was founded in North Hollywood in 1949 and is incorporated under the laws of the State of California as a non-profit corporation (The Valley Lodge  is a 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt California non-profit Corporation, Incorporated in June of 1952). The Valley Lodge moved to its present location in Burbank in 1953. Under the Articles of Incorporation, twelve (12) members form the Board of Directors, who serve voluntarily and govern the corporation.

The Valley Lodge celebrates its anniversary in June each year simultaneously with AA Founder’s Day. This open house celebration is attended by recovering alcoholics from a wide area of Burbank and Los Angeles.

The Valley Lodge is not a rehabilitation or alcoholic treatment center. It is, rather, a sober living home that provides a sober living environment for recovering male alcoholics in the halfway house tradition. Residents are gainfully employed, taxpaying citizens who contribute to the community while in the process of pulling their life together during the transition from substance abuse or from a treatment facility and is working towards their assimilation into what is accepted as normal society.

Since its inception, The Valley Lodge has housed as many as twenty (20) residents at a time. It is the goal of the current Board of Directors and Management of Valley Lodge to do whatever is possible to improve conditions for the residents. Towards this end, during the past years, the total resident capacity has been reduced to a maximum of thirteen (13), including the resident manager, as we strive for quality rather than quantity.

The Valley Lodge has consistently passed inspection by both the Burbank Fire Department and the Los Angeles County Health Department and is looked upon favorably by the California Association of Alcoholic Recovery Homes. In addition, we receive residents by referral from the Burbank Courts and California Substance Abuse programs.

The Valley Lodge, as a nonprofit corporation, is self-supporting and operates without cost to the City of Burbank or its taxpayers. The Valley Lodge owns the property on which it is located and has operated the sober living home there for the past fifty-two years.

Though not directly connected to Alcoholics Anonymous, The Valley Lodge provides a meeting hall on site at which five (5) regularly scheduled A.A. meetings are held each week, attended not only by residents of The Valley Lodge, but also by other recovering alcoholics from the local area as well.

The Valley Lodge has convenient access to local bus transportation as well as a limited job base within walking distance which is an important asset, as many of the residents are without drivers licenses and must walk, ride bicycles or use public the transportation system to seek employment, commute to work and other appointments.

The Valley Lodge is understandably proud of it successes, past and present.

Alcoholics Anonymous, founded in Akron, Ohio in June of 1935 is a worldwide fellowship of men and women, who came together to share their experience, strength, and hope with one another. The Valley Lodge would like to take this opportunity to do so with you now.
